Free Film Program for Students during In-Service
Day - Nov. 9th
The Colorado Film Society, the non-profit organization
that produces the Boulder International Film Festival,
will conduct its third "World Cinema Day," in
association with The Lafayette Cultural Arts
Commission and Project Yes, for students aged 8-18
on Friday, November 9th, a no-school day due to
teacher in-service meetings.
The November 9th "World Cinema Day," which will be
held at the Lafayette Public Library Auditorium at 775
West Baseline Road in Lafayette from 1pm - 2:30pm,
will include a screening of the film Farther Than the
Eye Can See (55 minutes). The award-winning
Colorado film by Michael Brown is about interior
visions and perceptions, as Michael documents blind
climber Erik Weihenmayer's struggles, despite total
blindness and paralyzing fear, to maintain perfect
focus on every footstep, hour after hour, day after day,
week after week on his historic climb up Mt. Everest.
The film will be followed by a presentation by Serac
Adventure Films producer David D'Angelo, who will
speak about the making of the film and what it's like to
climb Mt. Everest. He will also demonstrate some of
his own high-altitude climbing equipment. There is
no cost for students to attend, and seating will be
available on a "first come/first served" basis. CFS staff
will be present at the screening.
The Colorado Film Society is a non-profit organization
that produces the Boulder International Film Festival.
The CFS is dedicated to building a cohesive film
community in Boulder through educational outreach to
area students and providing educational forums and
networking opportunities to filmmakers and industry
professionals in Boulder. "World Cinema Days" are
presented by the Colorado Film Society/ Boulder

Film Festival covers the range of human adventure
from heart-stopping athleticism & serious exploration
to environmental heroism and gripping tales from the
edges of the believable. Every spring the adventure
film jury has the tough task of screening and scoring
hundreds of submissions from around the world. In
2007 this competitive selection process delivered 25
new films. Among them: see famed climber Dean
Potter climb a Yosemite 5.13 without a rope, ski from
a helicopter and with avalanches in Norway's steeps,
travel the world with today's most extreme Mt. bikers,
go organic with the Star Wars spoof, "Grocery Store
Wars" and more. Filmmakers are awarded in twelve
categories ranging from 'Best Adventure Sport ' to
the 'Activism Through Adventure Award'. Some laugh,
some cry, some cheer, and everyone goes home
knowing exactly what is possible with today's
adventure filmmaking at its finest. This tour show is
the cream of the crop.
Adventurers and filmmakers created this festival
because we believe in the power of the story,

| Colorado Film Commission Hall of Fame Gala to Honor John Fielder - Nov 2 |
 |
The Colorado Film Commission will hold its Inaugural
Hall of Fame Event in Denver on November 2,
honoring world-renowned photographer John Fielder.
The event will take place at the Pinnacle Club by the
Grand Hyatt. The gala will include a VIP reception, a
Gallery and Publications library of Fielder's work. A
multi-media presentation with dignitaries and special
guests will highlight Fielder's contributions to
Colorado as a historian, preservationist, and artist.
Fielder has hiked and skied hundreds of miles in
Colorado alone - and drives thousands of miles more-
in order to record on film its most sublime natural
places. For the past 30 years, no one has traveled this
state like John Fielder - from its rolling plains to the
soaring Rocky Mountains and the Western Slope's
remote plateaus and river canyons. Fielder's work and
photography highlight common goals with the Film
Commission: promoting Colorado locations,
economic development of the state through film
production and promoting yet protecting Colorado's
natural resources. Go to johnfielder.com
