Community Food Share would like to suggest the following actions to help you get involved with the issues discussed in the film DIVE!:
- BECOME AWARE: Become aware of how many people in my community are living with hunger and food insecurity:
- 1 in 8 people in Boulder and Broomfield Counties are food insecure.
- 50,000 people live at or below the poverty line in Boulder and Broomfield Counties ($27,500/year for a family of four) – that’s enough to fill Folsom Field!
- 10,000 children are on the Federal School Free Lunch program in the Boulder Valley and St. Vrain Valley school districts
- SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL NON-PROFITS. Boulder and Broomfield has many non-profits that provide food assistance. See what support they need and the impact your support can provide. An example of local food assistance non-profit is Community Food Share:
- SUPPORT COMMUNITY FOOD SHARE. Community Food Share is the Feeding America food bank for Boulder and Broomfield Counties. 87% of the food Community Food Share procures is donated, from all by over 90 consistent local grocers, local farmers, and from and other local food industry donors and one half dozen national food wholesalers. Community Food Share distributes over 6.6 million meals annually through a network of over 50 Member Agencies which are other non profits such as food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, and emergency food box programs. You can support Community Food Share with:
- Financial donations: for every dollar donated Community Food Share can distribute four meals.
- Volunteer time and talent: Community Food Share needs the support of over 2,000 volunteers annually.
- Food Donations: Donate food through local food drives or your garden, hold a food drive or just stop by! www.communityfoodshare.org
- Local Hunger Reduction Events: Participate in CropWalk or Turley’s Turkey Trot
- REDUCE FOOD WASTE. Make a daily effort to purchase only the food you need and use it wisely. Purchase less pre-packaged food and more individual ingredients.
- ADVOCATE. Work with hunger advocacy groups to create the public will to end hunger. Be patient and non-judgmental in this work – remember it is a process!
